Avalanche Outage Not Caused by Inscription Wave, Co-founder Clarifies

The recent block production halt on the Avalanche network was not caused by the “inscription wave” as initially suspected, according to Ava Labs co-founder Kevin Sekniqi.

Avalanche experienced a major technical disruption on Friday, February 23rd, leading to a block production halt. Initial reports suggested a possible connection to the recently launched “inscription wave.”

Sekniqi initially tweeted, “Investigating Avalanche primary network block production issue right now. Seems to be related to a new inscription wave launched about an hour ago.”

Sekniqi later clarified on Twitter, “Clarification on this: the issue seems to be a gossip-related mempool management bug, which is purely a code-related bug, and not an issue with performance handling. Inscriptions seem to have hit the edge case, but inscriptions did not affect performance.”

In simpler terms, the outage was caused by a bug in the code, not by the increased activity from the inscription wave.
